Manchester Valley High flies to poultry third place

The Manchester Valley High School FFA Poultry Judging team competed at the Maryland State Fair on Sept. 5, and finished third overall in the state.

Team members, shown above, from left, are Casey Burtnick, who finished 13th overall in the individual rankings; Kelsey Smith, fifth individual; Katie Ashby, ninth individual; and Cody Craumer, seventh.

The team's coaches are Kelly Hale and Glenn Haines.

Westminster festival set for Montessori milestone

The Montessori School of Westminster, 1055 Montessori Dr., will host its 35th anniversary festival Saturday, Oct. 3, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Games, raffles, food, hay rides, entertainment, pony rides, crafts and more.

There will also be a 3.5-mile Emerald Run and 1-mile family fun run and walk at 9 a.m. Registration forms may be found at MontessoriSchoolofWestminster.org. For details, call 410-848-6283.

Special education overview scheduled for Sept. 30

The Partners for Success Center of Carroll County Public Schools will sponsor a workshop for parents and school staff Wednesday, Sept. 30, 6 to 8:30 p.m., at Carroll Springs School in Westminster.

This workshop will give participants an overview of the special education process and acquaint them with terminology and procedures.

Light refreshments will be served. To register, call Cindy Senseney at 410-751-3955 by Monday, Sept. 28.

South Carroll to name stadium as 'Parker Field'

South Carroll High School will host a ceremony Oct. 23 to name the school's stadium field Parker Field, after longtime football coach Ken Parker.

The ceremony will take place during half time of the Cavaliers' football game against Westminster High School.

South Carroll players, coaches, faculty, alumni and friends are invited to attend the ceremony. There will be a social gathering with light refreshments at 5:30 p.m.

Restaurant fundraiser aids Westminster band program

The Westminster High School Instrumental Music Program will be involved with an Applebee's restaurant fundraiser Oct. 5 throughout the day at the restaurant at 634 Baltimore Blvd., in Westminster.

The program will receive 10 percent of net sales when people bring in a flyer, which is available at www.owlband.org.
